Kerosene
03:56
|
|||
Starin' at the whitewash, listening to screen doors slam
It's hot as hell and blazin' on the Mexican black top today
Voices play like broken records that never stop spinning
Layin' here lookin' at the ceiling wondering
What you're doing tonight
Rain is fallin' down now, the roof is leakin' on my skin
The noise it never stops now, it hits me like a gail force wind
Sweat drips down and I'm alone in a crowd
Look around and see those eyes they're chocolate brown
and I wonder what you're doing tonight
Sun beats down but the silence drowns
I scream loud but I make no sound
The sun is shinin' down now, the kids run 'round with barefoot feet
They hold my hand and play now, they light up just like kerosene
They sing songs about God and true life
They sing loud and I can't help but smile and I wonder
What you're doing tonight

Come Take a Ride
04:13
|
|||
Come take a ride
You can sit next to me in the passenger seat
Come take a ride
Help me navigate, you'll be my dashboard drummer
We'll sell all we have, and pack it all in
We'll never turn back or we'll turn to stone
All I want is to see the world with you
All I want is to see you
Come take a ride
I will sing a song for you called the Soundtrack of Us
Come take a ride
We will leave this redlight town and not turn around
We'll sell all we have, and pack it all in
We'll take wanderlust, and all of our dimes, leave nothing behind
All I want is to see the world with you
All I want is to see you

Honeybee
03:01
|
|||
You're like a butterfly, and I've got an eagle's eye
I see you flyin' high
You drop down close to me and I hear your melody
I wish I could fly but I'm no butterfly
You're like the cavalry, and I'm like a centipede
I feel you run over me
You're like a maple tree and I'm like a honeybee
Just one leaf can cover me, I'm just a honeybee
Did you know the words you said live in my memory
Think of all the times I cried out to you
You said it's not you, it's me
You're my noreaster wind, knock down my walls again
When you come around, don't even try and bring me down
Or I'll leave without a sound
You're like a butterfly and I've got an eagle's eye
I see you flyin' high
You drop down close to me and I hear your melody
And I wish I could fly, but I'm no butterfly

Hold You in the Light
04:09
|
|||
I feel tongue tied, like something's in my throat
A gag's been tied around my mouth and cut off from my heart
I see your pain, and feel it too
Sister, this whole song's for you
I will hold you, hold you in the light
"Til this battle's done
I will hold you, hold you in the light
'Til this fight is won
I will hold you, hold you in the light
It's been a lean month, and a meaner year
The fear it grips me, from my head to my toes
I'm tryin' to get well, life's givin' us hell
But it won't 'til the price is right
I will hold you, hold you in the light
'Til this battle's done
I will hold you, hold you in the light
'Til this fight is won
I will hold you, hold you in the light
Just keep putting one foot in front of the other x4
I will hold you, hold you in the light
'Til this battle's done
I will hold you, hold you in the light
'Til this fight is won
I will hold you, hold you in the light
I'll light a candle for you x4

Connecticut
03:34
|

Went to Connecticut today
It was nice to leave the city
It looked the same as Ohio or Indiana
But it's not the same, guess I wish it was
I saw a butterfly today
It was the biggest I had ever seen
But I saw it mounted on the wall
It couldn't fly, cuz it's not real
It's not real, guess I wish it was
And in my mind, I see it fly higher than I've ever seen
A butterfly fly
High as a kite, but it's not right
It's mounted on the wall, so still, it never will fly
But it's alright, it's gonna be alright
Went to Connecticut today
It was nice to leave the city
I saw a butterfly today, it was the biggest I had ever seen

Paint Me
02:58
|
|||
Paint me, o paint me in Harlem and Brooklyn
Under those city lights in halos of smoke
Paint me, o paint me in Queens and Manhattan
Walkin' so lowly, the moon risin' slow
Never felt better, never felt smaller
Never felt so close or so far from home
Paint me, o paint me near the cathedral
The one near 112th on the upper west side
Paint me, paint me singin' in subways
Beggin' for strangers to spare me a dime
Never felt braver, never felt dumber
Never felt so in or so out of love
Paint me, o paint me next to my lover
Paint us into forever 'til heaven comes down
Paint me, o paint me with roses and candles
Layin' so peaceful on this hallowed ground
Never felt richer, never felt poorer
Never felt so close to hatred and love
And I'm always hungry but this city feeds me
With all of its poetry, its people and sounds

Saturday Morning
03:14
|
|||
It's Saturday morning, or afternoon
Just woke myself up dreamin' of you
I dreamt you brought me some flowers and some coffee
Lookin' around and I don't see you anywhere
Just me my coffee
The house is so quiet, just me and the cat
Your flowers from last spring, hand dead in my room
The winter cold chills me, reminds of you and
How cold your words were when you shut the door and you said
I won't be seeing you
I won't be seeing you
I've been layin' in this bed since 9pm last night
There's a pillow where your body used to lie
I try to forget how good you smelled all the damn time
But I can't
I go through the motions, I'm brushin' my teeth
I take my shower and stare at my feet
I dry my hair and put on all of my makeup
I take the trash out and feed the cat, then I sit
Just me and my coffee
Just me and my coffee

Bird Song
04:03
|
|||
Once there was a very colorful bird
but she didn't know how to fly so she never spread her wings
Days passed by and she grew tired of waiting
of sitting and wishing and she decided it was time
To learn how to fly, to learn how to fly, to learn how to fly
She perched low, as close to the ground as she could
In order not to fall and she felt very small
Though she feared the heights that she'd never climbed to
She knew the time had arrived for her to begin to try
To learn how to fly, to learn how to fly, to learn how to fly
The day had come for her to spread her wings,
So she opened them up and she prepared for the jump
Before she flew, she turned her eyes to the sky
And said "I'll see you soon" and off of the edge she flew
She learned how to fly, she learned how to fly, she learned how to fly

Fireflies
02:51
|
|||
Fireflies and lemonade
Children showing the pictures they made at a party
On a Saturday
Fire's burning outside, the moon's shining bright
And there's no pollution from the city lights, but that's just a memory
And I'm singing my songs on Grandma's piano
They say it's out of tune, but it sounds alright to me
Empty bottles litter the floor, candle's burning like my need for more
of whatever it is, I am looking for
Soda water, aspirin, both the stuff of my new regimen
And I feel like I'm flyin'
I feel like I'm flyin'

Through fire and under seas, that's where you'd go with me
You'd take hold of my hand, wouldn't let go 'til we landed
'Til we were free
Through tempest storm so raging, that's where you'd go with me
You'd stand right next to me, help me keep up on my feet
'Til we were free
Through wartorn bloodied countryside, that's where you'd go with me
You'd hold your sword up high, hold your shield right next to mine
'Til we were free
I'm barely breathing, I'm hangin' by a thread
You stay right with me, you put your hand beneath my head
I'm barely breathing, I'm hangin' by a thread
You stay right with me, you put your hand beneath my head
Through darkness, space and time
That's where you'd go with me
Through sickness and in health,
Through poverty and wealth
That's where you'd go with me
That's where you'd go with me
